Once all the soccer moms have moved from minivans to crossovers, what would that do to the minivan?
Call me crazy, but I see a surge in cool coming to the minivan in a couple of years.

You're crazy.
Also, I don't think the minivan will fall out of favor for one reason: sliding doors.

We need to convert them... Renault style.
Because racecar minivan is the best minivan.

They're already cool. The upscale soccer moms drive the same Lexus SUVs/CUVs they always have, and the rest of them have jumped ship to the crossover to be more like the upscale soccer moms. All that's left for the minivan are cool parents.

Nah, there's some parts or the world that keeps on buying minivan, like Asia.
Or maybe because the minivan in Asia is different. Like that Honda Freed for example. It's a Minivan about the size of Honda Fit, and that's what we call a minivan.

As a part time driver of a miniature van, and a cool parent, I agree.
Plus mini vans are so damn useful.

Once, many moons ago, my mom had a Sienna for about 6 months. Thing was a POS, and I got hit with the doors more times than I want to remember. And then there were the electrics failing on a daily basis, and the tie-rods falling off in an intersection. Literally the worst car we've ever had. We still don't buy Toyota/Lexus cars because of it (a bit much, but it's not like we're actually missing out).
After that, she went back to the usual X5s/CR-Vs/Range Rovers, thankfully(?).

I showed this to my mom and step dad, who are looking to buy a new van by the end of the year. They really like the Odyssey but not the price, this they just thought was completely insane. My mom wanted one.

Sounds like a terrible spot of bad luck on the Sienna. Toyotas are widely regarded as some of the most reliable vehicles. I bought my wife a 2008 Rav4 with 82,000 miles on it and now it has 140,000 miles. Besides consumables, I've only had to do the water pump. You can't seriously consider the X5 or Range Rover reliable, can you? Just ask Doug Demuro.
Like you said, you're not missing out at all. Toyotas aren't really inspiring vehicles in any way.

From my recollection, the X5 and the Rover were actually pretty reliable (although this was ~8 years ago). We sold the Range Rover because my mom didn't want my brothers and I learning on it (because entitlement?) hence the CR-V.

Some minivans don't even have sliding doors anymore. The Odyssey, I think, is one such minivan.
